The perfect guide for good nutrition from the store.

Jane Benkendorf has done it!
She has done your home work for you. "The Food Storage Bible" allows you to bybass label reading. Each brand name product is listed and graded to help you buy only foods that are free of unhealthy preservatives, dyes, and any of the other additives that increase cancers and tear down the immune system.
When you read this book you will feel like Jane has been shopping with you explaining each toxic item to you on a personal level.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy lesson on food additives and a simple shopping guide.

Title misleading but still great book

I bought this book while looking for helpful ideas on my own home food storage, so I was disappointed. However the content is still very good and was very informative. I learned a lot about food additives. If you are concerned about just what is in processed foods, this was a good starting reference. If you are looking for guides to help you with setting up and managing your own home food storage, other books have been much more helpful.

The author obviously put a lot of work/research into the book BUT it really has NOTHING to do with food STORAGE. I feel that the contents, though interesting, do not match the title. I was interested in a book on food STORAGE - not additives, etc...

Instructors, please don't use this as a course book

I am currently the marker for a first course on linear programming which uses this book. I find that the definitions of key terms are buried in the text, like the definition of a basic solution on p. 95. The description of the simplex algorithm in section 2.1 is mixed together with a particular linear programming problem. I would prefer to have a general description and then many detailed examples, rather than a mix of both and then only two examples. I have a similar complaint with section 2.3 on the two phase method.

This book is expensive. There are books published by Dover that cover the simplex algorithm, duality, and integer programming that cost a tenth as much as this book, and an instructor should look at those before assigning a book that costs this much. Also, it is ludicrous now to have newly purchased books come with floppy disks.

A good book

This is a good book. Everything is well explained and each section has many examples. The only thing I would complain about is that the examples should probably have been placed before the theorem statement/proof as it would help the reader understand the proof. The material is all very straightforward and shouldn't cause any headaches. Overall an excellent book which I'd recommend to anyone who would like to learn linear programming.

For anyone trying to learn linear programming out a class room setting it is also good as the back has answers to odd numbered questions.

Puzo knows his writing

Every time I read a book by Mario Puzo, I become more and more impressed with this mans writing style. His books always have a great combination of real world brutality, goodness, sex, and all the other mixes of human experience.
His sentences are simplistic and without airs, as are the ideas of the story, and it is this simplicity that gives Puzo's books an elegance that many modern writers lack. Mario is writing about something that is interesting and tells the reader what they need to know when they need to know it. He knows his subject material and creates a world that is interesting as well as believable.
Fools die was excellent, and then I read GodFather,and I was very impressed with that book also. I wasn't sure about this book, but I picked it up, and saw that even though it was about the same subject material (I thought it would just be a recounting of the godather), the storyline is fresh, with new characters that become well developmed by the end of the book.
Puzo also creates fantastic characters in this book, there is a mold to run by, the old sicilian mafia mold, but the characters in this book are removed by a generation or 2 from this mentality, and it is very interesting to see how Puzo shows their lives as caught in the middle of the mafia life of their parents and grandparents, and the americanized life they lead apart from Quoge LI and the "family".
This book was great, and a great read. Any book written by Puzo is worth reading because of his fantastic writing style, this book is no exception.

The Mafia in American Society

The Last Don is the finest Mafia novel that I have read and is comparable to great novels such as The Godfather. The Last Don is Domenico Clericuzio, a wise and ruthless old man who is determined to see his heirs become established in society. The prologue to the story is at the christening of his nephews, Cross De Lena and Dante Clericuzio. Now, thirty years later, the Clericuzio's have become the dominant mafia family in America after costly wars with other families. They have gained a hand in politics, gambling, drugs, and even Hollywood.
The setting of The Last Don is Las Vegas in 1995. The author did a very skillful job of describing Las Vegas. He pays very close attention to details. In the book, Las Vegas symbolizes the chaos and corruption in the world. The plot of The Last Don is that two cousins, Cross De Lena and Dante Clericuzio, hate each other because of a past war and must decide what to do about one another. There are also several sub-plots, such as the love between Cross and Athena and the relationship between Pippi De Lena and his daughter Claudia. Even minor characters play major roles in the story.
I enjoyed The Last Don tremendously. It was the best mafia-themed book that I have ever read. It was full of non-stop action and a twist around every corner. It also entwines love and romance into the bloody plot. I would recommend The Last Don to people who are interested in books about Mafia in America. It should, however, be read by mature audiences. The book has numerous bloody battles as well as various sexual scenes. The only bad part about the story is that the plot is not revealed until around 150 pages from the end. Definitely a great book to read on a rainy day.

I really liked this book. The reason I first got it was because I knew that Mario Puzo wrote the Godfather and I loved that movie. I decided to get the book, and I was not disappointed.
This book is about the workings of Cross DE Lena and the Clercuzio family. Cross and Dante are grandsons of the Don and they make a name for themselves. Cross owns a huge casino/hotel in Las Vegas, and Dante is the The number one hitman for the family. But when a family secret that the Don wants know one to know gets out, there becomes a huge war with in the Family.
This is a great book for anyone who likes action our who liked the Godfather. This book shows that after all these years Puzo can still write a great mafia story.

Wow. Clear and easy introduction to Matlab .

I needed to learn how to use Matlab to run a complex analysis on a data set with several hundred thousand lines of data. Quite frankly, I never thought I'd be able to do it. I ordered a used copy of this book by Amos Gilat and a used copy of Stormy Attaway's Matlab. I read the first two chapters in each book and was ready to start creating and manipulating matrices in Matlab. Looking in the index, I found the discussion on for-end loops and I wrote my first script with loops. Step by step I am working my way to analyzing my data. Here are my general thoughts. First, Matlab is easier to learn than I expected. For me, it is more like working within a structured program like Stata, SAS, or SPSS than working with a blank-page programming language like R or Python. Second, Matlab is extremely powerful and versatile. It does everything from repetitive calculations to wonderful graphics and visualizations. I am very impressed. Third, both books are great at giving the reader the tools needed to start working with Matlab immediately. You don't need experience programming, but you will want access to Matlab to start practicing commands. Fourth, Matlab does so many things that neither book comes close to giving examples of working on the data the way I plan on analyzing it. For the specifics I have done a lot of Internet searching to find scripts already written to do the kinds of data manipulation and analysis I need to do. These books provide the basic information about working with the program -- creating and manipulating data as matrices, working with functions, and writing commands and scripts. Finally, I find this book by Amos Gilat to be clear, concise, and to the point -- perfect for my needs. So far my experience with Matlab has been so much more positive than I expected, due largely to these two books.

If you take a Matlab course, you're going to need this book

My Math 151 course at Texas A&M required a lab in which we learned how to make use of Matlab. Why? No one had a particular reason, but that's ok, because the teaching assistants didn't know how to use the program anyway. Given how unhelpful the online tutorials of matlab are, plus the very limited turnaround time to finish assignments, you'll find yourself looking for a good, helpful guide on how to use this frustrating application.

It lists a large number of the Matlab functions you'll use, explains how the output varies for each of them and really offers you that help that you're so lacking otherwise for the class. Definitely worth your purchase.
