Great resource for a quick review of Italian verb conjugations

As a teacher of Italian for adults, who are quick and demanding learners, I know how important it is to have handy a quick review chart of Italian verb conjugations which can be very useful when you cannot remember the difference between the future endings and the conditional (they're so similar!) So it's nice to have this chart readily available to refresh my recollection of the tenses. Since we are not immersed in Italian, we need to do a lot of memorization of verb conjugations in order to master the differences in tenses. I need all the help I can get sometimes in order to remember all these tenses!

Could use more irregulars

Since Italian is almost as full of irregular verbs as English, conjugations of the more common ones would be helpful. But as a resource, this card works well. I've put it in my travel notebook along side the similar vocabulary card and both will be airplane study on my trips to Italy.

Easy to understand and written for a business audience

This book gives a great overview of how to think about cyber security for a whole organization, end to end.
Based on a series of interviews conducted with experts in the industry, it breaks down what organizations are doing right now to protect themselves, and provides concrete suggestions and recommendations of what you could do. Unlike other books out there, it's not overly technical, focused on historical attacks, or has a military focus - rather it's aimed at a CIO/CISO audience.
Would definitely recommend as an easy read at all stages: to introduce the topic to your organization, to get an idea if you're doing what the average organization is doing, and develop thought starters on how to get ahead of the rest of the industry. I will definitely pick this up again in a few months' time for another skim through, and refer to it regularly. I think people will refer to it in a few years' time as one of first books detailing how businesses should think about cyber security.

Best overview of latest cyber-security thinking available

Very good position for both cyber-security practitioners and business leaders. I've noticed it's in line with the findings from World Economic Forum 2014. The observations are backed up by solid benchmark data and the information is presented in a clear way. Good that it contains not only a description of the current state, but also set of recommendations going forward.

I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in cyber-security topics.

An excellent read for business folks and IT practitioners alike.
We don't have to look any further than CSI : Cyber to see how much attention this topic is getting in the media and with business leaders.
The authors do an excellent job of breaking things down and walking you through each element of their unique approach to the cyber security challenge. I would recommend it to both those new to the world of Cyber security as well as experienced IT practitioners who will benefit from the holistic business led approach that is laid out. Books like these might lead to a little more sleep for CISO and CIOs in the future!

Staden’s narrative is a foundational text in the history and European “discovery” of Brazil, the earliest European account of the Tupi Indians, and a touchstone in the debates on cannibalism. Yet the last English-language edition of Staden’s True History was published in 1929. This new critical edition features a new translation from the sixteenth-century German along with annotations and an extensive introduction. It restores to the text the fifty-six woodcut illustrations of Staden’s adventures and final escape that appeared in the original 1557 edition.

In the introduction, Neil L. Whitehead discusses the circumstances surrounding the production of Staden’s narrative and its ethnological significance, paying particular attention to contemporary debates about cannibalism. Whitehead illuminates the value of Staden’s True History as an eyewitness account of Tupi society on the eve before its collapse, of ritual war and sacrifice among Native peoples, and of colonial rivalries in the region of Rio de Janeiro. He chronicles the history of the various editions of Staden’s narrative and their reception from 1557 until the present. Staden’s work continues to engage a wide range of readers, not least within Brazil, where it has recently been the subject of two films and a graphic novel.

Grade 5-8 After he unwittingly releases an evil force long imprisoned in an old Irish manuscript, Pidge and his little sister, Brigit, are drawn into a series of adventures to help the good god, the Dagda, destroy this evil before it is found and used against the world by the Morrigan, Celtic tripartite goddess of battle. The Morrigan, in both hilarious and terrifying personae, is seen mostly in mod guise as a pair of motorcycle-riding hags, who set up a command post in Galway to observe and meddle with the action. (In one terrific touch, their fingerprint, suspended in air, becomes elsewhere a maze to entrap the children.) Their mean sense of humor lets them create a "watch frog" (who speaks in bog-Irish malapropisms); comb their blue and red hair with a live hedgehog; and make chess moves by sticking pins into chess pieces given temporary life. And constantly, their shape-changing, flick-tongued, slyand dominatedhounds track the children, but they may not kill unless they see their quarry run. The unfolding quest baffles and challenges the pair as it will readers, as shapes shift and dreams take on independent life. The writing is wonderful, but inventive to distraction; one can lose track of names and allusions to earlier events as episodes multiply, and some of the episodes seem superfluous. Read this book!

I first read The Hounds Of The Morrigan in elementary school. Recently while at the library, it caught my eye again, almost like Pidge in the story. This is a wonderful novel - the characters are as alive as any people I've met, the setting is amazing, and, especially for a childrens book, the plots and subplots are intricate and complex. But fascinating - it's almost hypnotic - this is the only book I have ever seriously not been physically able to put down while reading it. Anybody looking for (I mean anybody, from 10 to much older) a really good fantasy and the quest you wished for devoutly as a child, a crash course in Irish mythology, and the kind of book will probably never come along again - read this book. It's well worth it. I wish Pat O'Shea would write another book like this - perhaps someday she will. Until then, read this one and hope. Come on, Pidge and Briget are waiting!

This is a masterpiece.
Look, I can rave about as many books as I read (and I will) but in the end, this book is my very favourite. It took ten years to write and is, quite frankly, brilliant.
It has (almost) everything that recommends a book to me. Warm, endearing protagonists (Pidge and Brigit are two of the most delightful heroes to grace children's literature), truly threatening bad guys, humour, suspense, scary bits, happy bits, bits that make your scalp tingle, and bits that make your heart sing. It's about friendship, and love, and courage, and good versus evil. It's about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. It's ostensibly a children's story, but is strengthened by some challenging concepts. Its length, which would normally be limiting, merely prolongs the absolute delight to be found in this book. The plot is engrossing, although slow moving to start off with and references to Irish mythology lend an air of familiarity to the story.
The true strength of the book though, lies in its characters. Everyone in this book has a story. Every character is fully dimensional. You can picture Puddeneen having his life made cheerfully miserable by Miss Fancy just as strongly as you can picture Brigit growing into a vibrant, intelligent young woman and Puddeneen is a talking frog. That is how well O'Shea does her job.
I could never understand why 'His Dark Materials' etc were any more popular than this truly marvellous book. I recommend it above all others. It's beautiful.

Real magical fantasy.

Some books stretch the bounds of credulity with unexplained magical feats, but with this book I just didn't care; it makes no pretensions to be other than what it is - a children's fairy story, where anything can and does happen; monsters, giants, shapeshifters, witches, magic, talking animals - this book has the lot. It made me want to read it out loud to my grand-daughter, if it wasn't so long! It has that (now) outdated 'story-book' delivery to it that is somehow very appropriate to the plot and characters; short, descriptive sentences without waffle or padding convey the gist of the story using exactly the right words and phraseology - no wading through paragraphs of tortuous description. Brigit steals the show with her feisty 'I can do anything and I'm not afraid of YOU' attitude and the other characterisations are so good, you can 'see' each one in your mind's eye. Ideal material for a film, but I fear that Terry Gilliam is the only one good enough to do it justice. I loved it - read it with a child's open mind and you will too - a real joy!

Another Great Peterbilt Book

This a Great book to add to a Peterbilt Collection, I was Hoping for More Cabover Coverage in the Cabovers section in the end, But There was no 362E mentioned(362 enhanced model) History is there, Just as in Rasmussens Book, There are a couple B/W pics from Ron Adams, and others that I have seen before, and a few I have not. Its basically a Book focusing on Custom Petes, Look at the Cover.I was disapointed the Famous Tnn Big Rig Custom old 362 was not there. And no 379 X pics sadly.only a mention. And not enough 389 shots, or legacy class edition 379(last 379) pics. But I tell you what, I still like the book despite its few shortcomings.I would recommend it to True Peterbilt Fans like myself.

Pretty good photos but major typos. Should have gone through Spell Check before publishing. Should have also been edited to eliminate redundancies found in several areas. More rock-solid, real world, common sense advice from John Maxwell

I once praised a book as being rooted in common sense and a friend asked "If it's common sense, why did you need to read the book?" So true, but with all of the demands and distractions in this world, we sometimes lose common sense as we react immediately and emotionally to situations. This is one of Maxwell's slim "gift book" editions from Countryman...high quality paper, 5 X 7 size, 120 pages. The chapters are: Commit to Your True Dream, Believe In Yourself, Think Differently, Take Action, Develop Great People Skills, Stay With Your Strengths, Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Never Stop Learning, and Never Give Up. In keeping with his normal style, Maxwell accents the book with quotations from Harry Truman, John Quincy Adams, Alan Alda, Joyce Meyer, and many others. It's a refresher course in why you're here and what you can accomplish if you're willing to focus your effort. A similar book...also excellent, also recently released...is Ben Stein's "How Successful People Win." I highly recommend both books.

A Nice Feel Good Book, but Not Very Meaty

I've read some of Maxwell's other books and enjoy them immensely, but was initially disappointed when this one came in the mail. I was looking for something longer and meatier. This isn't so much of a Maxwell book as a Maxwell compilation. Much of the information is pulled from many of Maxwell's other books. Though seeing as how I have not read most of his other books, this turned out to be a pretty good read.

The book is broken into nine chapters, with each chapter containing some inspirational stories as well as relevant quotes from famous individuals. Don't look for anything in-depth, meaty or even ready-to-apply principles here. This is mostly for inspirational purposes only. But if you are in need of a book that gets your creative motor going, Dare to Dream is a good place to start.

Thinking correctly

This is one of the books that was recomended to me to read to succeed. It has been everything I was told it would be, and more. It did take over 3 weeks to arrive, but is worth it.

I will recommend this book to anyone who wants a better life, and is willing to do what it takes to achieve it.

Learning the fine art of reading aloud to others

"Oral Interpretation" was a standard textbook for so long because it does a superb job of combining theory and practice. Authors Charlotte I. Lee and Timothy Gura begin by talking about the importance of choosing a selection for oral interpretation by basing your selection on the key touchstones of universality, individuality, and suggestion. At the heart of this approach is the advice actor Spencer Tracy always gave to his colleagues, which was "to know your lines." Of course, there are layers of meaning to Tracy's simple dictum, and it is uncovering all those layers that Lee and Gura try to impress upon their students.
In addition to choosing a selection, the Basic Principles section of the textbook deals with Analyzing the Selection, Voice Development for Oral Interpretation, and The Use of the Body in Oral Intepretation. Consequently, the mind which analyses the selection is as crucial as the voice and body that interpret it for the listening audience. You will be impressed with the vareity of selections that are includes for analysis and oral interpretation. For example, in the Voice Development chapter you have selections as diverse as Garrison Keillor's "Lake Wobegon Days," Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky," Mathew Arnold's "Dover Beach," and a Navajo Ceremonial Chant.
"Oral Interpretation" then looks in turn as the major genres of writing that can be interpreted: Prose, Drama, and Poetry. There is also a chapter devoted to Group Performance, which tends to cut across the other three areas. The approach of Lee and Gura is to break down each form into specific elements that can be addressed in interpreting the text. This means speech phrases, balancing sentences, and tone color for prose; scenography, embodying characters, and physical focus for drama; and allusions, figures of speech, and sensory appeals for poetry. There are also appendixes offering Some Notes on Directing the Group Performance, Building and Presenting a Program, and a Brief History of Theories of Interpretation. The goal, as with the main part of the textbook, is to prepare teachers and students of oral interpretation for all eventualities.
"Oral Interpretation" was the textbook I used when teaching this particular class because of its comprehensiveness and its emphasis on practical advise. For me the key part was always the critical understanding of the selection, taking the piece apart so that you understood how it worked and could put it back together in performance and breath life into the words. Students always appreciated the specificity of the examples, where a paragraph could be devoted to taking apart a single sentence or appreciating the particular combinations of vowels and consonants that appear in a particular line of rhyme. Even those students who feel that they their voices are unsuited to oral intepretation, can appreciate the critical approach to understanding literature that they learn from this volume.

This books is such a gem! It's descriptive, well laid out, interesting, professional (yet also funny at times) and filled with lots of excellent pieces which are great to orally interpret. I adore this book.

Loving the Performance Literature Class and this text book

I'm only 1/2 way through the semester and using this text book in my Speech 231 Performance Lit class but I'm loving this text book. I do not like the flimsy cover - it makes holding it to read a really uncomfortable chore. I've had to add a stiffer cardboard cover to front and back so I can hold the book in my lap - but inside those covers - I'm enjoying the variety of works presented and the explanations into the anatomy of prose, poetry, performance and interpretation. As a screenwriter, I'm finding this to be an essential resource for screen play and for future works. Recommendation: please make the cover more user friendly.
