Boring
By S. Shamma
Not for me. I could not immerse myself in the events taking place, and I could not connect with 14 year old Alice. I'm not sure why, maybe it was the mood I was in, or the state of mind I had while reading it, but for whatever reason this book fell really short of what my expectations were.

When rumors of the plague start emerging, Alice finds herself in constant fear of getting the disease. As the death tolls are mounting, Alice can barely leave the house, until her own Aunt Nell falls sick. Alice remains in the house with her aunt, caring for her as much as she could, hoping she doesn't catch the disease herself, while her father is locked out elsewhere, not allowed to leave due to the disease as well.

When her Aunt Nell dies, having not made it, Alice is completely alone in this world. Once pronounced safe to leave their houses, Alice packs and leaves in the hopes she could get to her Uncle's village outside of London, only she (along with many others) are turned back and now allowed to cross. Alice is kind of relieved to be going back to her own home, even though she had almost starved from lack of food earlier.

She finally finds herself reunited with her father, and we end the book with the huge London fire.

It may have been the events, or the way Alice wrote her story, but this book didn't do it for me. Not one bit.I found it very boring and uninteresting.

The Promise: Book Three (Comes The End 3), by William Creed

The Promise is an action adventure book about the Last Days. This is the third book of a three book series being touted by critics as a successor to the LEFT BEHIND series. The first two books, COMES THE END and THE GATHERING recived rave reviews. A powerful story of awesome biblical miracles reappearing in the End Times. Scripture is sited throughout the book.

This book continues the adventures of Andy and Stephanie through a series of exciting adventures. Their safe hideaway is discovered by the dark forces who intend its distruction.

The story begins with the focus on a small group of children fleeing the 'Goonies'. They are disperatly trying to find a camp they have heard in being run by one who is known as "The Prophet".

Comes The End series by William Creed
By Donna C
Below my review is the description of the 3rd book of this series as posted on Amazon. The spelling errors here number three. Can you find them? The errors in the past three books were spelling, grammar, structure, and a complete lack of editing in general.
Glaringly obvious is the fact that these books were self-published and self-edited. Also, this is now a four book series. I suppose an afterthought by the author.
While I did find some interest in the plot, I had hoped that books 2 and 3 would be an improvement on book 1.
I have interest in end times stories in general but these are poorly written.

So far off the Bible
By Amazon Customer
The book did keep my attention, and it was a good science fiction book. But it is way off the truth of the Bible. The Bible says that once someone has The Mark, they cannot be saved, unlike some of the characters in this book whose mark disappeared. Also, I found the end where the prophet character states that all people go to Heaven, ridiculous! Jesus wouldn't needed to have died for our sins if all people go to Heaven. And the 1000 year period where some Christians are left instead of raptured to save unbelievers, is silly since the Bible states Jesus will be with us! The Bible is God's word, and God does not lie, so changing the Bible for the story of this book, just ruined it for me. I know some interpret Revelations a bit different, but there are some that take it way off, like this author.

So Many Typos and Gramnar Errors
By Dr. L. Bower
I don't know whether or not there was an editor on this one. While the story is powerful, its message is diminished by the number of typos, grammatical errors, and misspellings (at least one per page). That's kind of sad.

From Publishers Weekly
Landsburg demystifies the economics of everyday behavior in these diverting if not always persuasive essays. Why don't promoters of sell-out rock concerts raise the advance ticket price? Because, suggests the author, promoters want the good will of teenage audiences who will buy lots of rock paraphernalia. Why are executives' salaries so high? One reason, opines Landsburg, is that stockholders expect managers to take risks, and well-heeled executives are more likely to do so. Associate professor of economics at the University of Rochester in New York, Landsburg applies his counter-intuitive analyses, with mixed results, to everything from taxes, auctions, baseball and the high price of movie theater popcorn to government inefficiency, the death penalty, environmentalism (which he attacks as a dogmatic, coercive ideology) and NAFTA.

From Library Journal
Landsburg (economics, Univ. of Rochester) demonstrates the economist's way of thinking about everyday occurrences. The result is a compilation of questions ranging from why popcorn costs so much at movie theaters and why rock concerts sell out to why laws against polygamy are detrimental to women. Many of the issues raised are controversial and even somewhat humorous, but they are clearly explained only from an economic perspective as opposed to other dynamics of human behavior. There are also clear explanations of the misconceptions about unemployment rates, measures of inflation, and interest rates. The book is not a textbook but shows how one economist solves puzzling questions that occur in daily living. Recommended for general collections.
- Jane M. Kathman, Coll. of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn.

From Kirkus Reviews
An economics professor's sometimes charming, sometimes glib, always counterintuitive guide to evaluating the small anomalies of daily life in a free-market society. In a series of interchangeable chapters, Landsburg (University of Rochester) asks questions like: Why do laws mandating use of seat belts increase the rate of traffic accidents, as statistics show they do? Because, he says, drivers have been given an incentive to drive more quickly and less carefully by being made to feel protected. In the service of what he calls efficient markets, Landsburg argues that wheat farmers, say, ought to be forced to pay damages done to their crops by sparks thrown off from railroad trains, since such damages can be borne more cheaply by farmers than by the railroad companies that are at fault. When analyzing the costs and benefits of legalizing drugs, he admonishes that increased tax revenues from a heretofore untaxable criminal activity are a neutral item; transfer of wealth from individuals to government is never equivalent to the creation of new wealth and may even be a societal drain. In general, Landsburg cheerily points out, economists value efficiency rather than justice, market solutions over legislated compromises, consumption over saving, and the creation of wealth above all else; these principles secretly drive the profession's public analyses of criminal penalties, tax policy, environmental legislation, and the ultimate good of market- based free trade. For all his cleverness, Landsburg never seriously questions the ``neutral'' assumptions of the dismal science--a fact that considerably decreases the value of his book. -- Copyright ©1993, Kirkus Associates, LP. Economics taken to the next-level
By SHAIBU I.
I nearly returned the book the very moment I received it after purchase and flipping through the pages. I thought I had the wrong book because it was part of the set of textbooks my Professor in Economics in Agribusiness recommended and as an economic textbook, the first thing I expected to see was the usual demand and supply curves and equations and because they were conspicuously missing I thought I had the wrong book.
Indeed it was worth recommending and reading. This is a book that took Economics to the next level; making effort to present Economic theories to the non-economists. It touches on real life issues and written in plain and clear English without any economic jargon which may be difficult to read and understand by non-economists.
The writer made great efforts to argue and dispute several misconceptions in life by applying the realities and economic principles. Some of arguments and concerns on some issues were quite controversial and appear to be based on value judgements. As a result, one may not fully agree with them based on one's values; but in general, it was an interesting reading.
I took special interest on the Environmentalist discussion on chapter 24. In as much as it sounded quite controversial to read because of strong advocacy for environment and conservationism (which I am a member), I saw the argument to be a great and interesting one. Indeed "if environmentalists were as passionate as they claim to be about conserving resources for future generations, I would expect more of them to oppose the taxation of capital income, the social security system and other policies that encourage consumption in the present". I found this interesting because truly, sometimes some advocacy concepts only take a parochial and narrow view on issues and that in total effect end up not education the masses well.
This not withstanding, there were other sections where issues were disputed but the author did not do much job to let the alternatives be very clear enough. An example is 'why popcorn cost more at the movies' on chapter 16. In this section, the author could not make it clear to my understanding what alternative approach could maximize profit for both popcorn and movie ticket sales.
In general however, this is a great book to read.

Insightful and catchy
By Jessica Roberts
I didn't buy this book based on a review I had read or heard but as a prescribed reading for my graduate class in economics. I expected this book to be boring and drab like most, but I was pleasantly surprised. What I find most captivating about this book is the fact that the writer uses everyday experiences and our individual preferences to shed light on basic economic principles that would otherwise have been difficult to comprehend. From the first to the last page this book is filled with thought provoking and nagging questions that I have never dared to ask myself. It isn't straightforward read but intricate in a way that it tasks your mind.
The Writer does not push his opinions on the reader but leaves you with a set of possibilities and solutions to choose from by analyzing every subject. For example in Chapter 11, he looks at the subject of deficits. I have never stopped to think twice about making a payment at the store, if I have money in my account or on my credit card I would just use any of the two methods without as much as caring about the costs I would incur by choosing either option. Landsburg has one powerful weapon-analysis, and he utilizes it in a way that is non threatening but very helpful to his readers.
After reading this book, not only do I understand certain topics better but I also know that every choice I make comes with a cost and benefit . At the end of the day I wouldn't want to lose more than I gained. I will definitely read this book again after my class is over, its like a book of life in economics

Great book!
By Stephany Flores
I had to read this book for one of my course in Graduate school and I have to admit that it end up being more entertaining than what I expected. A very good reading that illustrates how economists think and tries to teach some basic economic principles through simple stories.
The book does a really good job opening the eyes into new and valid points that are usually ignored when drawing conclusions. The chapter “How statistics lie” is a really good example of this. One of my favorite chapters “Iowa Crop Car” (The shorter in the book) gives a very simple and easy to understand explanation about trade theory.
One of the few things I don’t appreciate about the book is that sometimes asks a lot of questions and doesn't always provide the answers. (But maybe that’s just and opportunity to trigger the reader's critical thinking)
The last chapter of the book is a bit controversial, and will definitely not be enjoyed if you are an environmentalist. It’s hard to read it without letting your own preferences bias your opinion, however the author makes a very reasonable point stating that protecting the environment is a matter of preferences and involves trade-offs, that should not be overvalued in comparison to others peoples preferences.

Moons of the Solar System: From Giant Ganymede to Dainty Dactyl (Astronomers' Universe), by James A. Hall III

This book captures the complex world of planetary moons, which are more diverse than Earth's sole satellite might lead you to believe. New missions continue to find more of these planetary satellites, making an up to date guide more necessary than ever. Why do Mercury and Venus have no moons at all?Earth's Moon, of course, is covered in the book with highly detailed maps. Then we move outward to the moons of Mars, then on to many of the more notable asteroid moons, and finally to a list of less-notable ones.

All the major moons of the gas giant planets are covered in great detail, whilethe lesser-known satellites of these worlds are also touched on.Readers will learn of the remarkable trans-Neptunian Objects – Pluto, Eris, Sedna, Quaoar –including many of those that have been given scant attention in the literature.More than just objects to read about, the planets'satellites provide us with important information about the history of the solar system. Projects to help uslearn more aboutthe moons are includedthroughout the book. Most amateur astronomers can name some of the more prominent moons in the solar system, but few are intimately familiar with the full variety that exists in our backyard: 146 and counting. As our understanding of the many bodies in our solar system broadens, this is an invaluable tour of our expanding knowledge of the moons both near and far.

Fifty Egg Timer Short Stories, by Richard Bunning

This is a collection of 50 mixed genre flash fiction stories. Each of them is between 600 and 1000 words in length. They vary from Romance to Science Fiction, and from the banal to serious in their scope. The idea of the title is to suggest that each story can be read in the time it takes for an egg to boil, or for the bus to arrive, or to help one get through the adverts on the telly. There is no expectation that all the stories will be everyone's cup of tea, or everyone's the right sort of egg. However, the author really hopes that everyone will connect with at least some of the spectrum.

A mix for lovers of flash fiction
By Anka D
The book is a mix of short and very short stories written on different themes and placed in different genres: romantic suspense, historical fiction, journalistic nonfiction, creative nonfiction, fact-based magical realism, speculative fiction, fact-based fiction, paranormal fiction, real life fiction, science fiction, suspense fiction, supernatural, mystical realism, philosophical thought, romance, psychological fiction, dramatic outline (of a TV drama), thriller and social fiction.

Stories I liked:
“Introducing Egg Timer Flash Fiction” – introduction – explains the title of the book: a story takes about 3 minutes to read, just as long as it takes for a hen egg to boil. In a similar manner, the author compares novellas or novels to other types of eggs (ostrich egg or elephant bird egg). Written with a lot of humor, this introductory short story offers a new, funny classification of books.

“Disassociated Consciousness and Hope” – speculative fiction – what would it be like if your brain were still alive after your body died? Here you can read the thoughts that go through a brain floating in a jar of liquid.

“Died of Protected Pride” – real life fiction – a story with a well-delineated main character (for a short story), Alice, a victim of her own racism.

“Hostages, Combinations for Survival” – suspense fiction – a story about the thoughts that go through the character’s mind while he is being kept hostage in a bank; survival instinct and morality fight in this suspense story.

“Beach Parasol and Abandoned Persona” and “Umbrella from Oblia” - real life fiction – In these two stories Richard Bunning touches again the theme of racism, using the same character, an African man, in both: as a main character in the first, and secondary in the latter. Even if the stories have different subjects, and can be read separately, I think they complete each other. The characters are believable and, again, very well delineated. The stories take place in Italy, where, sometimes, when things look pretty on the outside, they may not really be so.

“Pray for Mabinty’s Dream” - real life fiction – a message in a bottle, a letter written by a young African girl, Rebecca, on her way to leave her native village, to embark on journey bigger than life, hoping that she would get to England. Written in a less than perfect English, with elements of native speech – the way the author imagined the girl to write – this realistic story is my favorite.

“Kassa on My Mind” – romance - the main character is a teenager, in love with a classmate, Kassa, going through the torture of his first love, trying to overcome his shyness and to prove to Kassa that he is not like all the other boys.

“What Dino Saw on Lombard Street” – social fiction – the history of a pawnshop, with very detailed descriptions of the things contained within.

“Rose, La Mme, Mon Mome & Mon Repos” – paranormal – Strange forces come from behind the grave, even in short stories; a father who has lost his son has proof of that, when the dead son saves his life.

“Pink’s Reflection” – psychological fiction – quite a scary story, written in first person, from the point of view of a mentally deranged individual who has been locked up for killing his own mother. Dark humor reigns.

As the writer says, it would be impossible for all the stories to be one person's cup of tea. I recommend the book to lovers of flash fiction everywhere.

Full of Surprises - Should be considered a 'How to' for Flash Fiction enthusiasts
By David Gordon Burke
Richard Bunning's 'Fifty Egg Timer Short Stories' is about the best INDIE writing I've had the pleasure of reading in ages. With this collection of Genre Flash Fiction, the author displays a dominance and control of language, grammar, dialects, characters, setting and description rarely seen by bestselling writers; and he does it all in 4 pages or less per story.

Flash Fiction - Definition
Flash fiction is a style of writing which involves producing very short pieces of fictional literature.
Works of flash fiction can comprise as little as a single page or 250 words.

'Fifty Egg Timer Short Stories' is unique in its wide range of genres. Sci-fi and Speculative Fiction are well represented along with Historical Fiction, Contemporary and even Chick Lit.

My only complaint about this collection is that a few of the stories were so compelling that I felt cheated that there wasn't a possibility to explore the topic in greater depth in the Flash Fiction format.

Watch for some cleverly hidden cultural references and song lyrics within the prose. My particular favorite was the Orwellian piece which coincidentally I read the day after seeing the black and white British television adaptation starring Peter Cushing. Bunning's piece beautifully captured the original mood.

I look forward to reading other works by this author.

Something for everyone
By Charles Bray
In his introduction, Richard Bunning hopes that his stories raise a bubble or two of interest. Well fear not, Richard. They’ll do much more than that.

Apart from the sheer enjoyment provided by each of these short pieces of literature, they culminate in a diverse showcase, allowing Richard to display his undoubted talent in many genres.

Anyone seeking reassurance that Richard possesses the imagination to sustain his writing for fifty totally different and distinct tales, needs only study his thesis in Story 1, on how the eggs of various species of bird can be used as a word count for future writing. I actually started to take this seriously until I had a quiet word with myself.

As for the rest of the stories, well, I’m reminded of Forrest Gump’s classic statement, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you just don’t know what you’re going to get.’

Well you certainly don’t know what you’re gonna get from one story to another here. They are unbelievably diverse. There’s got to be something for everyone in this box. From heavy drama, to comedy, to sci-fi, to chick-lit, even to Jeremy Clarkson style looking at life, it’s all here. All brilliantly written, all enjoyable.

Go on, get in there. You know you want to!

Helpful, says everyone
By A. Y. Smittle
Everyone I talk to tells me this is a great book to have for the sample tests. The readability of it is zero---make sure you have a supplement with words and phrases and background before you crack this open. It summarizes key points and thats IT. Then gives you sample quizes. And vocab. The thing everyone says is great is that it gives you the answers to the test and tells you the answer---and why the answer is right to the question they ask. Its helpful as an alternative source---if you are new to real estate, PLEASE don't just use this book. The vocabulary alone will KILL YOU! Use this as a study guide and practice material to your main work. And good luck!

A Must Have for your Real Estate Collection
By A Customer
Purchased book 1 week before taken the PSI exam. Found that most of the sample questions were on the exam worded differently. Study your terms from your Real Estate Principals Book and use this book as a supplement. It is a great tool. I wish I would have purchased it sooner. I would have done alot better.

The real test was MUCH tougher
By Dennis Barrett
This is a good study guide, and the tests helped me find weak spots. The Texas Broker test questions were significantly tougher than the test in this book, and included several "trick" questions (two answers appear equally correct) that the book doesn't cover. Do NOT plan to use this as your only study resource - it's much too concise for that.
