About the Author
Barrett Hazeltine is a Professor of Engineering at Brown University and a registered professional engineer. He is a renowned educator, having received outstanding teaching awards from thirteen senior classes at Brown. In 1985, the award was named for him. Dr. Hazeltine has a wide array of international experience including teaching positions at the University of Zambia, University of Botswana, and Africa University in Zimbabwe. The development of this book came through a very successful engineering course for non-engineers in Appropriate Technology offered at Brown.

Christopher Bull is a Senior Research Engineer and Lecturer at Brown University, with a Sc. B. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering. His interests and experience include solar energy systems and devices, and the design and implementation of efficient cook stoves. In addition, he has taught various engineering courses at Brown including the Appropriate Technology course for non-engineers.

Engineering Text for Non-Engineers

While written to be a text book for a non-engineering Appropriate Technology course, the book provides both the formulas needed to build these systems along with a simple enough description of them to allow their operation and construction to be understood by non-engineers.
Hits the rare middle ground with enough info to do it, without being too theoretical to be readable.
I've passed on several copies to friends.

It is a good textbook.

It has many practical and helpful examples in each section. At the end of sections, there are plenty of exercises problems for practicing. All of these make learning such a complex subject much easier and faster. It's a great book for people who need to take exams in ordinary differential equations. It's also useful for engineers who need to refresh basic ODE knowledge.

This textbook was very well written as the contents flows smoothly. Ordinary Differential Equations need lots of practice to master and this book has provided many useful examples to help understand intricate theorems. This book contains many questions and detailed solutions. This was very helpful for studying the subject.�I highly recommend this textbook!

A thorough and well-formed book on ODE's with plentiful fully worked out examples

This textbook is excellent for learning--or reviewing--methods of solving ODE's and their applications. Most textbooks have a limited number of solutions for exercises; Dr. Deng's book, however, not only provides answers for all problems in an appendix, but also provides the detailed step-by-step ways that one may arrive at those solutions, which is of great value to the student. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this book, even if it is not required for a course you are taking or if you are simply looking for a reference in the future to refresh your knowledge when you need it.

In vivid photographs and sparse, yet action-filled text, April Pulley Sayre reveals the wonderful watered world after a rain shower. With rich curricular connections to weather, the water cycle, plants, and animals, as well as a grammar focus on verbs, this is a staple in the PK-1 classroom. This is a great introduction to nonfiction for young readers. However, the timeless, gorgeous photos will dazzle any age and spark research, as well. Amazing!

I hope you'll forgive me if I gush here a little bit. The photographs in this book are absolutely stunning. The incredible detail in the photos just blows my mind. I felt like I could reach out and touch the rain drops. You can actually see the fibers on the leaves. I could almost smell the fresh air that always comes with rain. The poetry is just as wonderful as the photographs, describing in just a handful of words what is happening in each photograph. Many different plants and animals and displayed here in all their glory. I think my favorite photograph was the one that shows a reflection of a branch in a rain drop. The author also does the reader a favor by describing at the end the science behind rain and the water cycle. There are also some great references to other books and websites that have additional information. An incredible book that is perfect for sharing or just for enjoying.

This is a stunning book! The photographs are amazing, especially the ones where the raindrops reflect surrounding images. The text is lyrical. Children will enjoy finding the hidden elements in some of the photos, which I learned about on the author's website. The perfect marriage of photos and text!

About the Author
Annie Besant is a children's author, poet and editor based in Chennai. An avid reader, she discovered that she too could shape words to create new and exciting worlds. Since then, she has been creating ink and paper portals for children to discover. Her picture books for young children include Mala's Silver Anklets, When I Grow Up, Sam's Christmas Present and Sammy Cricket Gets Into Trouble. Her short story 'Magic' appeared in The Puffin Book of Magic for 8-year-olds. Emma Bigton and the Sphinx, her first full-length book for older children, will be published by Scholastic.
