Hot, sexy, interesting story.

I really loved this book. It delivered on and above my expectations. Katja is a very spoiled daughter of a rich and influential man. He basically indulges her at just about everything except disrespect, especially in front of his peers. He decides to go to the local auction, to gloat of his wealth to his peers, to buy his daughter a slave. Katja doesn't want or need a slave but wouldn't dare argue with her father in public, so the purchase is made. He picks a "Huntsman", a leader of the inland warriors. Big, Muscled, Sexy,(bossy but that comes later). His name is Felix. Katja, who has never been in much male company, certainly not intimately ever, is not interested in receiving this gift from her father. He tells her she needs a slave to guard her besides it looks good because it gives him a chance to show off his wealth. Later on she sees him (the slave) at her neighbors farm while on a walk and sees the neighbor beating the slave severely for looking at her. To make it short, she saves him. Then the story really starts to get good, but if I told you what happens then you might not read the book so I'm stopping here.

This definitely is an erotic romance. 18 and over only (my opinion of course). I liked the characters in the story, even the dad kinda. I would absolutely buy an "Inland Slave II" the minute it came out if the author would write it about the same characters and a few more perhaps. I'd love to see how the...OOps I almost gave it away.(Zip the lip). Loved the book. Bye bye.

I'm not going to say much about the editing except that it could use a tiny bit more, but it wasn't that bad, only a little distracting.

This story is my type of books. I love when a girl won't bow down so easily. I was at the edge of my seat the whole story. I'm looking out for this author. Nice. Very nice.

90s Excalibur Collection Notable for the Days of Future Tense Issue

Starjammers #1-4

The Excalibur episodes display a lot character building. The stories open with the Excalibur team having a night out at a Scottish pub, and Colossus return to find Kitty Pryde with a new love interest, Pete Wisdom. This particular run of Excalibur is particularly noteworthy for issue #94 "Days of Future Tense". This issue plays with "Days of Future Past" timeline. The British spy group Black Air work with sentinels to end Excalibur in this alternate timeline tale. It is a great story especially if you enjoyed the recent X-Men movie (see X-Men: Days of Future Past [Blu-ray] or better yet X-Men: Days of Future Past ).

If you're a fan of the current Cyclops solo series (see Cyclops: Vol. 1) the Starjammers issues will appeal to you. In this miniseries Corsair and his team are rebels fighting the Shi'ar empire. Corsair debates the merits of the pirate life, and eventually the Starjammers learn that the Shi'ar are not a monolithic "bad guy".

Overall there is a very 1990s feel to the comics which make them feel a little dated. But Excalibur was a great title, and these issues are good (especially #94). I always enjoy any time Colossus, Nightcrawler and Kitty are in the same series, so Excalibur is recommended to fans of these characters.

AN OLD-FASHIONED THANKSGIVING AND OTHER STORIES is a collection of three of Louis May Alcott's short stories. Within the book readers will get a glimpse of life in New England during the nineteenth century that reflects Alcott's childhood, and in particular, the first story, "An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving," takes place during the Thanksgiving holiday in 1881. It is a vivid rendering where readers will easily identify the landscape, the sights and the smells of a family preparing for the festivities from the hasty pudding to the garland of dried apples hung on the wall. And while reading the opening passages of the story, the classic song, "Over the River and Through the Woods," comes to mind which captures the season.

In addition, with most of Alcott's works, the characters are the essence of her stories. This is the case in "An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving" where readers will see how the Bassett family members scamper about anxiously during the holiday, Seth, Roxy, Eph, Prue, Tilly, and Ma and Pa. And to join them, the family joyfully announce the arrival of Aunt Cinthy, Cousin Hety, Mose and Amos.

The other two stories are the insightful part of the book. "How I Went Out to Service" and "Transcedental Wild Oats" resonate the nineteenth century and social issues of the period as they relate to women's roles and the self-sufficient society who journeyed into the wilderness. One will observe two worlds where the narrator in the second story longs to break from convention to a life of respectability under her terms that includes democratic ideas of honesty and honor (39). While the third clearly shows an inkling of the Henry David Thoreau way of life.

AN OLD-FASHIONED THANKSGIVING AND OTHER STORIES provides a sample of Louisa May Alcott's works that may interest those who enjoy American literature and history. And her stories may be read more than once.

Domestic life in early 19th century

Many who has read Luisa May Alcott's books know her work "Little Women". This little piece presents three short stories one of which appears to be a short essay about writer's own experience as a companion. It is interesting to learn about way of life in the early 19th century and the way that a female writer's ability to present that experience to a wide audience. Ms. Alcott is writing from her own experiences, that one can easily relate to. While this is not the compilation of this writer's best work, it definitely gives a nice sneak peak into her style of writing and depiction of the society of her own time. One can easily and quickly learn about women's choices in terms of lifestyle, employment and social status of that time period in American history.

Actually I love this story

Actually I love this story, and I purchased this hard cover to give as a gift to someone I think highly of. But when the copy arrived I was horrified! A book should be visually appealing and it should have a tactile appeal as well. This book has fine paper and weight, but It is a bad photo copy of an old book from the Harvard University Library. It is quite ugly. I could never give this as a gift to anyone!

Got it for a friend's daughter but I read it first. This is a classic that stands the test of time. I highly recommend it, if you have not read it yet. Easy read, written a long time ago but still wonderful, and gives good insight into the past.

About the Author
Kurt Ament is a technical writer, editor and indexer with extensive experience in print and online publishing. Since 1988 he has developed automated indexing systems, corporate style guides, knowledge management systems, master glossaries, master indexes, and user interface guidelines for companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Hughes Aircraft Company, Symantec Corporation, and Xerox Corporation. A graduate with honors of philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley, he completed a five-year sequential program in technical communication at UCLA. He is a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication.

Somewhat disappointing

I was recently investigating options for single sourcing when I came across Kurt Ament's book Single Sourcing: Building Modular Documentation. Based on the glowing reviews the book received, I decided to order it from Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, the book was not what I expected. For the price of $[...] on Amazon, the book provides little help to experienced professional writers. My biggest complaint is that too many pages of the book are spent promoting the author's own ideas of style and usage rather than discussing true single sourcing issues. (134 out of 210 pages, to be precise, were dedicated to matters of style.) Some of the style and usage guidelines are handy for modular documentation, however, I believe each company should decide its own appropriate guide for style and usage rather than relying on the author's word. Had he couched his preferred guidelines as examples, perhaps I would be less inclined to view them negatively.

Granted, understanding how to simplify and standardize language is key to developing text for reuse within a body of work and reuse text for localization. Writers need to understand how to simplify and standardize text before starting to think about how to leverage tools for single sourcing. Describing how to use standard language, however, is different than promoting a writing style, and probably requires far fewer pages than Ament dedicated to it.

One of the reviews on Amazon raved about how well this book could be applied in conjunction with Information Mapping. I disagree. The author clearly does not approve of breaking processes or procedures into tables, which is a cornerstone of Information Mapping. In fact the author has very strict guidelines about when you should use a table and when you shouldn't. (Again, he is pontificating a particular style rather than offering solid advice on single sourcing.) Don't take my word for it; examine the table of contents very carefully before you buy this book.

What the book does well, is offer good general advice on where to start thinking about chuncking your documentation in order to reuse it again and again. Also, Ament provides a concise lexicon of single sourcing terms that will help you properly articulate your ideas to your teammates. Most of the flags and highlighting I used in the book were confined to chapters 1, 2, and 5.

This book might serve well in an introductory professional writing course, but if your company is seeking guidance on single sourcing, find a book that is tool specific or find a book that sticks to single sourcing and leaves style and usage decisions up to you.

Ament's book does not delve into the details of tools implementation. However, writing modular documentation that can be chunked and reused is a necessary prerequisite to single sourcing.
It's a good idea to understand the stylistic and writing requirements before getting into tools. Ament's book should be used in conjunction with tool-specific information.

not what I expected

This book is a style guide, with guidance like, "When introducing small sections that contain subsections, use itemized lists rather than sentences"; "Begin optional steps with a clear visual and verbal indication that they are not mandatory"; and "When listing commands, follow the capitalization rules on which your product is based." The beginning and end of the book provide a shallow discussion of single sourcing, but much of the book is style guidance like this. Maybe I'm missing something, but what does that have to do with single sourcing? I sure don't understand these 5-star reviews and encourage you to flip through the pages of this book before buying so you know what you're getting.

The Pagan/Wiccan guide to Qabalah

This book is not the most comprehensive of all the books I own on Qabala, but it has several virtues:
It is clear. It is easy to read. It doesn't weigh more than my bookshelf. It is written from a Wiccan standpoint, not dependent on Christian or Jewish religious knowledge. (Did I mention that I can carry it in a backpack, without a luggage cart?)
This is the book I usually recommend to Pagans who are trying to undertake the study of the Tree of Life. Most books on Qabalah (also spelled Kabbala, Quabala, and many other variants) are written from an explicitly Jewish or Christian perspective, which may be difficult to follow for those not especially knowledgable in that faith. In addition, books on Qabalah which do not account for reincarnation, or other tenets of many Pagan faiths, may prove hard to apply for Pagans. Since this book is written from a Pagan/Wiccan perspective, it is much easier to apply and interprete for most Pagans (in fact for anyone not of the Jewish or Christian religions). Christians and Jews who wish to study Qabalah will also find this book useful, but generally have more books on Qabalah that are written from the perspective of their religion, and may wish to have at least one of those in addition.
Knowledge of Qabalah can be very useful in crafting better rituals, allowing you to have a different perspective on energy or healing work, understanding paths and patterns within your life, and working with the Tarot.
This book is actually one of the set of Ellen Cannon Reed's works on Qabalah and Tarot, although it does stand on its own. In order to get a complete picture,and a better understanding of Qabalah I do suggest buying all three items in the set: This book, "The Witches Qabala", her other book, "The Witches Tarot", and the Tarot deck "The Witches Tarot".
The actual Tarot deck is a useful addition, but for those who are mostly interested in the study of Qabala, you may wish to start with this book, add "the Witches Tarot" book after this one, and decide if you want the deck later. The Tarot book *does* add to your understanding of the Qabalah, and should be considered part of the set, according to the author. ....

Ellen Reed not only puts everything in plain english to make it easy to understand, but the way she applies it to a pagan path is awesome! Not only The Shadow knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men

With a popular radio show beaming excitement to fans all over the country, "The Green Hornet" didn't need much else in terms of promotion for his comic title. However, Harvey Publications turned loose a top-of-his-game Al Avison on the character and the result was sheer magic. Avison was also employed by Timely Comics, where he expertly handled the art chores on "Captain America" (or would have had be been left to his own devices), but there was no question which of the two popular features benefitted most from his talents. With Martin Goodman (Stan Lee's uncle) worried about losing his stalwart audience for Cap and Bucky, he was always interfering with Avison's work, pushing the artist to hue closely to the groundbreaking style of Joe Simon & Jack Kirby, the team that created the star-spangled character. If Goodman had the sense to look at Avision's Hornet or even just Bob Powell's "Spirit of '76," he might have noticed that the exact "formula" he wanted was already racking in the dimes for competitor Alfred Harvey, who left his artists to please themselves and, thus, the comic-buying audience. Thanks to Golden Age Reprints and Amazon, these terrific books are within our grasp once again. And hoo-wee, what fun it is!!
