About the Author
Robyn L. Posin, Ph.D., a psychologist in private practice in Ojai, California, spent her first 32 years as a virulently self-critical super-achiever never at peace with her self. At the urging of a voice deep within her – just past her 32nd birthday, forty years ago – she dropped out of that life. Taking to the road in a self-contained van, she began the journey of uncovering who she might be without the overlay of all her driven excelling and perfectionism. Along the way of that journey, as she has gradually learned how to slow down, listen in and tenderly embrace all the ways she is and is not, she has come – at long last – to be at peace with her self.

Great for the women who had to be PERFECT instead of HUMAN

This book is targeted towards women. I think it is one of the best self esteem raising books I have ever read. If you had an abusive childhood, and especially an unloving, perfectionist mother, this book is for you. I got it because I found that I was being so mean to myself all of the time for being ill when I can't help it. The way it is written, one paragraph helps you think. It is OK to grieve, to be depressed, to have PTSD, and to be human. Highly recommend.

Interesting book. While there were times that I thought the message was a bit self-absorbed, I also can see and agree that most of us never really get to a place of befriending all those vulnerable parts of ourselves that were dismissed or told to buck up as children, and how it is that we carry those messages with us throughout our adult lives. I actually found the author, emailed her, and she was very warm and open in her correspondence. She "gets it" 'cause she's lived it and made it through.
