“Fate leads him who follows it, and drags him who resist.” Plutarch
Conn MacLeod, a highly decorated British Army Major has "inherited" a method of passing from his dimension (21st Century Earth) to another; one that is a lot like but definitely isn't, 9th Century Europe. After thirty years of planning and preparation for the "trip", it doesn't take him long to utilize his extensive knowledge and extraordinary skills - and the not insignificant amount of gold that he takes with him - to reshape the world that he had just "invaded" into one of his own making.
Wouldn't you?
However, he starts to have a niggling feeling that, perhaps, it not just luck but something more "sinister" behind him being in Meshech, and he is "here" for a greater purpose than his own enjoyment. That purpose is not disclosed to him after he expels the Ancuman from Meshech and returns the continent to peace, so perhaps the answer is not in Meshech but in Sytha, a continent a lifetime away, and where the Casere once ruled.
With little alternative, he prepares an armada of ships to visit the "old world", in true Conn MacLeod style.
If nothing else, there are a lot of Ancuman wiga out there that he can annoy, more women to seduce and more money to make. Given everything he has a achieved so far, he thought it should be easy.
That was his first mistake, and it went downhill from there.

Meandering...
By Amazon Customer
Blown off-course and barely avoiding ship-wreck, Con meanders through several countries and towns within, occasionally fighting (always winning, of course), and reinvigorating Cirice's and conversing with Gydens. 5 years later, he arrives at his original destination, fights a major battle, loses a daughter to the Ancumen (in somewhat of a cliffhanger ending), and prepares to recover her...
This book begins with far fewer typo's than Mr. O'Neill's previous books -- midway in, typo's increase, and by two-thirds there are a considerable number. Many of the latter typo's are just being sloppy -- missing letters (he rather than she) and occasionally missing words. The author also seems to have a problem with grammar, single/plural, tenses, etc -- more than a few "they is" or "he are" inclusions. It has the feel of a "not-so-attentive-student" or "English as a 2nd language" -- Australian English grammar is nearly the same as in England, the USA, etc.
There are also a number of comma splices/run-on sentences, often using 3+ clauses, with the 3rd clause elaborating on (one of) the first two clauses (without noting which clause). This became more than a bit confusing -- I made note of 72 times when I was forced to pause and re-read several paragraphs in attempts to gain perspective...
In-so-far as the content and storyline of the book -- very rambling, with the reader questioning where they are at, what's going on, and what is everything leading up to. The author has to this point refused to include any maps or references beyond "Anglo-Saxon words" -- I had no idea which direction the characters were traveling, or where they were in reference to towns, countries, etc. As with previous books, the number of character names became obstacles rather than references -- the reader has to remember all the names, where they came from, what they were doing, etc, an impossible task...
This book was the worst of the series in-so-far as storyline -- I felt like I was being led around blindfolded, having little idea where the story had been or where it was going. The series has some potential, but it's become a field littered with useless names and references -- almost impossible to find the story within the litter...

Not bad
By Dave Reynolds
For a full priced book the editing needs a lot of work. There are a lot of words used wrong and reader has to plow through this most of the way through the book.
The story is fun to read and the main character is fun to follow.
Hope the author writes more of this story but has it edited better

Misogynistic, but fun read
By Gadgetrex
Fun read, if you don't let yourself get caught up in trying to keep track of all of the characters. The story moves along at a pretty good pace and most of the characters are likable. My big complaint is too many missing words and typos that a proofreader should have caught. I look forward to the last installment in the series.
